Salt in the Netherlands

IMG_1205Yes, this is a picture of Faith adding salt to her drinking water. In the Netherlands (and Europe in general) salt is far less common and used more sparingly in food preparation. I’ve noticed that fries, for example, tend to be unsalted here while in the United States are always heavily salted. I think this says a lot about how health conscious those in the Netherlands tend to be as opposed to us in the United States. Ketchup is also incredibly different. It is filled with salt and sugar and highly processed back home, but tends to be very basic here and actual tomato sauce (imagine that!)
