Ponds

These are water features in my neighborhood. There are many little ponds like these that are all connected like a canal system. The purpose of these ponds are to divert water from the main area and prevent flooding. These ponds are near a golf course, so they use these ponds so that the gold course doesn’t get too flooded. Ponds have a lot of beneficial bacteria that are needed for breaking down organic matter like grass clippings, leaves, aquatic life’s waste, and absorbing excess nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus. Therefore, this bacteria is extremely beneficial for aquatic life. It can be a problem when the bacteria is low because it causes algae blooms to grow. Ponds are a source of water for irrigation and collect rainwater. Instead of the water just running off to the ground water, it is more sustainable to add it to the aquatic ecosystem.
